Small Town Charm
When it comes to small town charm, Punta Gorda shines brightly in Southwest Florida. This beautiful small town located where the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor meet, is an extremely walkable (and bikeable) downtown area bristling with activity. From weekend farmers markets to the annual Wine and Jazz festival, there's always something to do. No wonder one of their slogans is "It's Happening on the Harbor." With a exploding culinary scene, you'll be hard pressed to find a chain restaurant amongst the incredible variety of incredible independently owned restaurants. Top that off with in instant southwest Florida success story, Fat Point Brewing, and you're epicurian adventure just got a whole lot better.
Punta Gorda Pathways, a system of nearly 18 miles of bicycle and pedestrian friendly trails, connects major points of interest in the town. And if cycling sounds great but taking your bike on vacation doesn't... no worries-- the state's first bicycle loaner program was established here. Show your ID at one of several locations and take one of the yellow bikes out to explore.
There are several accommodation options right in the heart of downtown Punta Gorda. You'll be either directly on, or just steps from Harborwalk, 3 miles of the Punta Gorda pathways system along the Peace River that touches many points of interest, from the Charlotte Harbor Event Center, to Fishermen's Village, a unique waterfront shopping and restaurant attraction that also has a resort and marina on site.
