Rockford <> Punta Gorda
Trivago rated the area "#1 Best Value Destination" based on price and quality of accommodations-- from the beautiful small town charm of Punta Gorda, to the pristine uncrowded beaches in Englewood and the Gulf islands. The area is rich in natural beauty intertwined with a happening culinary scene and a strong ecological mindset. And on no other beach in southwest Florida will you find such an abundance of fossilized shark's teeth.
Just a skip, hop and a ... direct flight away. Allegiant Air flies directly from Rockford to Punta Gorda (PGD). No connections, layovers, or confusing huge hub airports to deal with. Experience beautiful small town, bicycle-friendly, culinary-rich Punta Gorda or swing over to the stunning Gulf beaches and islands near Englewood. If you prefer a different route... no problem. Southwest Florida International (RSW) is just over 30 minutes to the south, and Tampa International (TPA) is under 90 minutes to the north.
We hear it all the time... "It's too hot in Florida during the Summer"
Our challenge to this is... compared to where, exactly?
Englewood Beach - June 2015 Mean 84°, Max 91°
Now let's take a look up north:
Chicago - June 2015: Mean 83°, Max 94°. 94 is greater than 91, right?
New York - June 2015: Mean 83°, Max 90°. Ok - 1 degree cooler max temp. Break out the sweater.
Atlanta - June 2015: Mean 85°, Max 97°. Warmer all around.
So we can pretty much agree it's hot nearly EVERYWHERE in the eastern U.S. during the summer... but often less-so here than where most people live. So sure, we're hot too...but with a beach!
Oh... and our entire area is pretty much on the water, which keeps it cooler. Our beaches are surrounded by beautiful, clean Gulf waters-- which in our neck of the woods are often so clear that you would swear you're in the Caribbean islands. So if you do get a touch hot, just jump in... but be warned-- you won't want to get out.
