Turkish Artist Kemal Tufan with Assistance from Bob Antes and Ayla Measure a Piece of "Keel" at the Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, Punta Gorda, Fla. Exciting things are happening in Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands and today we had the honor of watching Turkish artist Kemal Tufan install his sculpture called "Keel" at the Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Gardens. Kemal Tufan's "Keel" Consists of 23 Individual Pieces, Estimated Weight is 20 to 30 Tons, Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, Punta Gorda, Fla. Carved from volcanic rock from Indonesia, "Keel" contains 23 pieces with the largest piece weighing 5,800 lbs. It's estimated the entire sculpture weighs 20 to 30 tons! "Keel" is one of six sculptures visitors will be able to enjoy when the Gardens open. Others include the 21,000 lb. steel “Palm” by Boston artist Jacob Kulin to “Ostriches” – two, 20 ft. tall human forms by Yu Zhaoyang from the People’s Republic of China. Putting the Pieces of "Keel" Together at the Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, Punta Gorda, Fla. In September of 2016, the Tetrault Family Foundation will debut the diverse botanical and artistic beauty of one of Florida’s most breathtaking garden parks -- the Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Gardens located in Punta Gorda, FL. A fifty million year-old stone palm frond fossil serves as the inspiration for the logo and signature sculpture for these spectacular waterfront gardens which will encompass 27 acres. Mother Nature, architectural ingenuity and contemporary interpretive art will combine to offer the largest sculpture gardens in the state of Florida. Abutting the Peace River, this waterfront oasis will encompass the diversity of five ecosystems including marshlands, wetlands, mangroves, uplands, a tidal basin and an island amphitheater. Flowering trees and plants will bloom throughout the year and more than 15,000 sq. ft. of boardwalks and docks are planned to provide optimum viewing. The Tetrault Foundation, a 501(c) (3) private foundation, will be one of the largest endowments for public botanical gardens in the state of Florida.
