Not all those who wander are lost -- J. R. R. Tolkien

Age is just a number and travel is for the young at heart. To encourage those nearing retirement to take a leap and explore the world, TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals recently released its list of “20 Baby Boomer Travel Bloggers Having More Fun than Millennials” and the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau’s Tourism Public Relations Manager Jennifer Huber is among those recognized.

Following a divorce, Jennifer found herself living life alone. Solo business trips as well as vacation plans with others fell through, which led her to embrace the motto of “traveling alone, not lonely.”

She began blogging in the early 2000s and launched her travel blog Solo Travel Girl (solotravelgirl.com) in 2009 with the goal of inspiring others to shed their fears and travel solo.

“I admit to still having uncomfortable butterflies when dining alone in a chic restaurant or participating in an activity geared toward couples or families,” said Jennifer. “But I shrug off my insecurities and indulge in the moment of discovery and adventure.”

“I believe in helping each member of our staff reach both their professional and personal goals, which brings strength to the organization that can’t be duplicated,” added Lorah Steiner, Director of Tourism for the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau.” Jennifer is an exceptional writer, blogger and social media expert and these talents, which have garnered international attention for her personal writing pursuits, bring a tremendous amount of value to the Charlotte Harbor VCB. I and the VCB staff are very proud of her and this recognition and validation of her exceptional capabilities.”

Jennifer writes about travel in Florida, throughout the U.S. and internationally with specific focus on nature-based adventures and culinary experiences. She is a resource on travel and has been quoted in various media outlets as the L.A. Times, Orbitz and WFLA. In addition to blogging and freelance writing, she has a strong social media following, has been recognized as a top travel Twitterer and is part of the NASA Social community.

Originally from Western New York, Jennifer credits a hiking trail for leading to a career path in the tourism industry; she spent a decade working and living in Death Valley, Everglades and Yellowstone National Parks for a park management company. She then worked for the Sarasota Convention & Visitors Bureau and VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s official tourism industry marketing corporation. She joined the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau in 2008. Jennifer currently lives in North Port, Fla., and plans to continue to travel solo until she finds her thrill-seeking partner.
