CHARLOTTE HARBOR & THE GULF ISLANDS, Fla. (December 04, 2014) – The Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau is pleased to announce Tourist Development Tax Revenues collected during September totaled $168,779 which is up 34.3 percent over Fiscal Year 2012-2013. Fiscal Year collections (Oct. 1, 2013 – Sept. 30, 2014) totaled $2,998,949 which is up 18 percent over the previous year. This is the most TDT Revenue Charlotte County has collected for a September and a year since the Bureau’s inception in 1997.
“September is traditionally one of our slowest months,” said Lorah Steiner, Director of the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau, “We believe tourism numbers and revenue will continue to be strong through the end of the year and our high season might best last year’s record numbers.”
“We're delighted to see such strong, continued growth in our region's tourism industry,” Patti Allen, General Manager of Fishermen’s Village said, “Business has been ‘up’ all year here at Fishermen's Village, largely due to the economic impact of our out-of-town visitors. Things certainly look promising for the upcoming winter busy season!”

Each month the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau receives hotel data through Smith Travel Research which compares Charlotte County occupancy levels, average room rate and room revenue to 11 Florida destinations. The report for October 2014 shows strong growth in the hotel sector over the same month in 2013. “We are anticipating another very good month, said Steiner.
Charlotte County levies a 5 percent tourist development tax (TDT) on accommodation stays 6 months or less in addition to the 7 percent sales tax. The first 3 percent is spent for tourism promotion and marketing support and the fourth and fifth percent are used to fund the debt for the bond for the recent renovations at the Charlotte Sports Park.
