From April 5 to May 3, 2018 Sea Grape Gallery will be featuring two of their artists, Vicki Glynn, watercolorist, and Sam Harris, custom hand carved knife designer.
Vicki Glynn was fortunate at a young age to have a grandmother who would always supply her with art supplies, encouraging her to focus on art projects. Several years after graduating college with a fine arts degree, Vicki and her husband Jay moved from central Illinois to Florida. In 1992 she joined Sea Grape Gallery and is currently one of the Gallery’s longest member artists. Prior to Hurricane Charley, Vicki opened her own custom frame shop and gallery. After a few years, it became evident that she wanted more time to devote to her own art and returned to Sea Grape Gallery. Vicki is known for her nature inspired watercolors of landscapes, seascapes, birds, fish, and flowers. As Vicki says, “I am inspired everyday by observing nature in this beautiful place we live”. It is evident in her award-winning paintings that Vicki has a true love of nature and Florida’s wildlife. In addition to producing her art, she has served on numerous area conservation and art related boards. Vicki’s beautiful artworks are in many public and private collections.
Sam Harris has had an interest in designing and making knives since he was six years old. After retiring as a military and commercial airline pilot, he began pursuing his hobby more fully and turned it into a successful art endeavor. Sam designs all types of knives including kitchen, hunting, folding knives, carving sets, beautiful letter openers, and key chains. He incorporates various items in his creations including semi-precious materials, dropped deer antlers, bone, and ebony. All his blades are stainless steel and some are high carbon and Damascus steel. Sam’s knives are now all over the world including England and Germany. Recently, Sam sent his blades to Santiago, Chile and as a result, he has been commissioned to make a presentation piece for the Surgeon General of Chile which is expected to be presented to the Surgeon General as a retirement gift. As Sam explains “I design my knives to be used and not just set aside to be viewed in a showcase”.
Many of Vicki’s beautiful wildlife paintings and Sam’s unique knives and accessories are prominently on display at the Sea Grape Gallery. In addition, more of their art and the artworks of all Sea Grape artists can be viewed at seagrapegallery.com.
