Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands, Fla. (January 31, 2014) – The Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau is pleased to announce Port Charlotte, Fla., has been named the top U.S. Best Value Destinations for 2014 by trivago, the world’s largest online hotel search site.

Port Charlotte offers “the biggest bang for your buck on vacation,” trivago stated in a release. The website determined the 50 affordable U.S. destinations by gathering data on annual average overnight prices of a standard double room and the destinations’ hotel reputation based on more than 82 million traveler reviews.

The website states, “Ecotourism hotspot, Port Charlotte, along southwest Florida’s Gulf Coast, tops the U.S. Best Value Destinations Index,” and added, “An overnight stay in a standard double room in Port Charlotte costs an average $93 per night.”

Described as “off the beaten tourist path,” the destination’s ranking as one of SAIL magazine’s “10 Greatest Places to Sail,” along with world-class fishing, birding, hiking, boating, shopping, and dining were additional reasons trivago named Port Charlotte the number one U.S. best value travel destination for 2014.

“Having Port Charlotte recognized as the top value destination by the world’s largest online hotel search website will increase awareness of Charlotte County as a tourism destination,” said Lorah Steiner, Director of the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau, “Our visitors tell us they not only love saving money on accommodations but also appreciate our location which gives them an opportunity to experience the beaches, attractions and events throughout Florida’s Southwest Gulf Coast with many within a 45-minute drive and Disney World is just a three-hour drive.”
