In order to participate in any class (unless otherwise stated) you must preregister and pay the fee at least three days before the date of the class. You may call PGICA (941-637-1655) and charge the fee by credit card or stop in the office and pay by cash, check or credit card. Most classes have a minimum enrollment requirement and the class will be canceled if that number is not met. All classes offered at the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association are open to the general public.  

WORKSHOPS

FORM BASED CODES-Toward Punta Gorda’s Future: Tuesday, March 5, 7 to 8 p.m. Mitchell Austin, Punta Gorda Urban Planner, will present an alternative to the City’s traditional building codification-Form Based Codes.  Sponsored by Smart Growth Punta Gorda and, in conjunction with the upcoming Charette process to develop a new City-Wide Master Plan on March 11-15, this is another opportunity to learn about ways to create a more vibrant Punta Gorda. Registration not required; free.

BEYOND PGI: THE PEOPLE OF THE GREAT CIRCLE-The Mound Builders of South Florida: Thursday, March 7, 7 to 8 p.m.  Charlotte County historian Ted Ehmann’s research into the Woodland Period mound building cultures in South Florida has led to his arguments for a larger, more significant place the Calusa and other tribes deserve in our history. No registration necessary, free.

ART CLASSES

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY9 a.m. second Wednesday every month. The Digiteers, formerly known as the Charlotte Digital Arts Photographers, is a group where everyone from novice to expert shares techniques and experiences in a friendly environment. Peer critique and presentations regarding the expanding photo technology keep members up to date on all phases of this hobby. All are welcome; registration not required.

JEWELRY DESIGN: Thursday, March 7, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Create a necklace or bracelet using your choice of a variety of stones, crystals, metals and/or beads. Teacher Cindy Wheeler will show you how to design an item. All materials and tools provided; $30; advance registration and payment by March 5 required; minimum of four students.

WREATH MAKING: Monday, March 11, 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, 27 10 to 12 p.m. Mary Adair will guide you through the steps to make a beautiful wreath using ribbons, deco mesh and other seasonal items. All materials provided. Contact adairmfa@gmail.com or 941-740-0226 with questions.

PAINTING FROM PHOTOS: Tuesdays, March 5, 12, 19, 26, 1 to 4 p.m. Julieta de Palacios, instructor, muralist and decorative artist, presents a four-class workshop on how to transform a photo of your choice into a unique piece of art. For artists of all levels; just bring your brushes and enthusiasm! Max 10 students; $190.
