- Reminder, the Minimum Wage increase effective Jan 1, 2019. The rate is increasing to $8.46 an hour and at least $5.44 an hour for tipped employees. Effective Jan. 1, the minimum wage in Florida is $8.46, up from $8.25. Florida’s 2.5-percent bump to $8.46 an hour is the result of a 2004 constitutional amendment that ties the minimum wage to the rate of inflation. The hike comes amidst a multi-year push by unions and advocacy groups to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour nationwide.
