Sean and Brooks Paxton, Internationally Recognized as the Shark Brothers, to Keynote Event; 2015 Inductee Into Charlotte County Tourism Hall of Fame Will Be Honored
CHARLOTTE HARBOR & THE GULF ISLANDS, Fla. (April 09, 2015) – Members of the Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands tourism community will come together to celebrate “Ecologinomical” values during a lunch at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15 at the Englewood Event Center in Englewood, Fla. (3069 S. McCall Rd.)
That which protects the ecology in order to preserve the economy.
Hosted by the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau, the event will emphasize the importance of ecotourism and sustainability within the destination and will feature a keynote address by Sean and Brooks Paxton, internationally recognized as the Shark Brothers. Various nature-based attractions will exhibit prior to the event, including a special appearance by the Peace River Wildlife Center’s Luna, a male leucistic screech owl.
The 2015 inductee into the Charlotte County Tourism Hall of Fame will be honored in a ceremony following the keynote address. Established in 2014, the Charlotte County Tourism Hall of Fame was created to honor people whose body of work in support of Charlotte County tourism has been both exceptional and diverse. Nominations were accepted and the inductee was selected by a panel of judges composed of representatives from various aspects of the regional tourism industry and each geographic area of Charlotte County. The Charlotte County Tourism Hall of Fame is located in the Charlotte County Administration Building at 18500 Murdock Circle, Port Charlotte.
Cost to attend the May 15 lunch is $20 per person. Members of the tourism industry are invited to attend and can do so by registering online at chgi.eventbrite.com or by calling (941) 743-1900 no later than May 11, 2015. All tickets are general admission and there is no assigned seating.
Keynote Speakers Sean and Brooks Paxton, the Shark Brothers
Sean and Brooks Paxton, also known as the Shark Brothers, are internationally recognized filmmakers and advocates for the sustainable use and enjoyment of natural resources. Headquartered in North Port, Fla., on the Myakka River, the Brothers specialize in producing educational entertainment content through their production company Shot Locker Productions. They have worked with Mote Marine Laboratory, Florida Aquarium and other research and exploration organizations in the areas of archeology, history, wildlife habitats and conservation, marine life and of course, sharks. The Brothers are recognized for their outspoken advocacy for the sustainable use and enjoyment of natural resources and the management of threatened or endangered wildlife and habitats. They have been featured during Discovery Channel’s Shark Week and have appeared on National Geographic, NBC, PBS and The Weather Channel as well as local and regional television programs. The Brothers also do work in support of several causes including education, engaging youth in connecting with nature through active outdoor recreational activities, and supporting members of the active military, veterans and civilian first responders.
