In 1987, Punta Gorda celebrated its centennial and a part of the year-long celebration included the inaugural year of the Punta Gorda Block Party, an event so successful it’s been held every year since. The biggest street festival in Southwest Florida, it provides an opportunity to celebrate life in Punta Gorda and is a critical fundraiser for area nonprofits. Due to the city’s budget crisis the past few years, the Block Party has fallen on hard financial times, greatly exacerbated by the terrible weather forecasts and diminished crowds for the April 2012 celebration. Unless some seed money is raised to pay upfront costs, there will be NO 2013 Block Party.
 
Help SAVE the Annual Punta Gorda Block Party event will take place on Saturday, October 20^th (Rain Date – October 21^st) beginning at noon offering a variety of musical entertainment along with plenty of demonstrations from community locals and fun for the kids. Enjoy wine, beer, and homemade cooking and be sure to bring your lawn chair to enjoy all the good times!
 
Listen to the sounds from a variety of local bands who have generously donated their time and efforts to play free of charge to help get the Block Party back for 2013! Watch out for American Made, The BoogieMen, The Goldtones, Denny Pezzin, and CoverArt playing all throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Also, enjoy demonstrations of the Martial Arts by Kengo C.M.A and PGPD/CCSO K-9 Units; Universal Dance Academy will also perform and an exhibit of Hunting Buggys will be there too. An inflatable playground with slide/bounce combo, gladiator joust, and a wrecking ball will fill the children’s play area which your children can enjoy with unlimited time with the purchase of a wristband for an additional $10.
